Our Garden

Spur of the moment, we decided to do a garden this year. I had already told Charlie that he would be doing pretty much all the work because I was already too busy. I guess he decided he was ok with that, because one day, he came home with a lot of plants. We've done pretty good with it so far. This is around the 4th of July. We heard that knee-high by the 4th of July is what to shoot for, so we had to document that we had succeeded.

This is the garden today. We're starting to get actual food!

We should have tons of tomatoes, corn, onions, potatoes, and a lot more. The pumpkins really took off. We have around 15 growing I think. Luckily, we planted them a little farther away from the other plants, so they've been able to grow without getting in the way.

This is the plant that we didn't plant. I think we decided it's spaghetti squash. Nothing got planted in that corner of the garden, so we just let it go.

This is Sam's watermelon. He came home from school one day with a cup of dirt and said it was a watermelon. But we couldn't see anything but dirt. I just set it aside and forgot about it. A couple weeks later, Charlie saw the cup and looked inside. There was a little plant growing out of the dirt. We were amazed that it grew, because it was on our porch where there was very little sun, and even less water. We planted it and watched it grow. This was the first watermelon plant to flower. Hopefully we'll get some watermelon out of it.
