Charlie's dad offered to take us to the corn maze. He said that Sam could bring a couple friends.
Brett had lots of fun on the slide with Grandpa. I think he would have spent the whole evening on it if we would have let him.
The boys were so excited they were running around trying everything out.
We were finally able to stop them long enough to do the corn maze. It was hard to keep them from just running ahead and getting completely lost.
Apparently, you go in the maze, come out at a halfway point at a concession stand. Then you go back in and go the rest of the way through. (That brown box at the bottom is the beginning, middle, and end points). Since we got started kind of late, it was just starting to get dark. After a while, I think they were freaking out that they were going to get lost and have to sleep in there. I was not aware that there was a map available. We'd been in the maze for quite a while when Charlie pulled it up on his phone. I didn't realize it was that massive.
Everyone started yelling that we needed to go in different directions and running around everywhere. My back was hurting from carrying Amelia. I was getting pretty frazzled with it. We finally made it to the halfway point and everyone was really excited. That's when I found out that we were only halfway through. I was definitely glad when the boys decided they were done and didn't want to do the rest of the maze. They headed off and started doing all the other activities again.
After that, we headed to Wendy's for dinner. I was still pretty frazzled. The boys were hyped up on candy, Amelia was cranky, and Brett just wanted to run around and play with the Halloween decorations. We finally made it through the night and got back in the car. The boys had a fun time playing in the back seat. Overall, it was a really fun trip. I think that would be a fun maze to do just with Charlie. We may try it one year.
One of Sam's friends had a pumpkin carving party. Sam had lots of fun running around and playing with his friends.
Sam's teeth have been reluctant to come out. He lost his first one in January, then lost another one not too much later. Then not much at all. Then one Sunday, he told us his tooth was loose. We checked it and realized it was really loose. We were at family home evening, so we told him that he would probably get extra money if he lost his tooth then. He tried to be brave once, but then he got scared. We worked the rest of the night trying to get him to let us pull it. He had a major meltdown any time someone else left, because that meant another dollar that he didn't get. We finally had to leave because we still needed to go visit my grandma. I don't remember how long we worked trying to get him to let us pull it. I had packed Amelia in the car seat and Sam still wouldn't come. I said, "Sam, we need to go. Amelia's getting upset." Then he cried, "Well, I'm already upset!" That made everyone laugh.
Sam was pretty devastated. He wanted to text my dad back and forth (it's a game he likes to play with him). We told him he couldn't until he pulled his tooth out, thinking that might motivate him. No such luck. He kept trying to pull it himself, but he wouldn't pull it hard enough. By the end of the night, the tooth was still in his mouth. We even tried pulling it while he was sleeping, but we couldn't get it without waking him up, and we didn't want to traumatize him any more. We finally gave up and just let him try to work it out on his own.
The next Sunday rolled around, and the tooth was still there. Sam let Charlie feel it and he was able to loosen it a little bit more. We were afraid that if he left it in another night it might fall out and he would swallow it. So we told him it had to come out by that night. He didn't like the idea of that. He wouldn't come near us. We even had some orajel to numb it, but he wouldn't believe us that it would work. He thought that we were going to try to pull his tooth out when we put the gel on. At one point, I just called him over to let me look at his tooth. He said, "Oh no, I fell for that one already." I hadn't even been the one to loosen the tooth! There were lots of people for Family Home Evening, so he knew he'd get some extra money, but he was still too scared. He asked Charlie to wrestle with him, hoping that might knock his tooth out. So Charlie started wrestling with him, then held him down and tried to pull the tooth. Sam was trashing around and screaming, "This isn't how we normally wrestle!!!!!" That caused everyone to laugh again. Sam kept asking Charlie to wrestle, and then would get mad whenever Charlie tried to pull the tooth, even though that was Sam's goal. After a long time of fighting him, Charlie was able to pull the tooth out. Sam didn't even feel that he pulled it. He was pretty happy after that. I think he earned $5. Charlie got $.50 since he was the one that did all the work :)
I think he was afraid the tooth fairy wasn't going to bring him any money. I may have threatened a time or two that I was going to tell the tooth fairy not to bring him any money since he wasn't being brave :)
Brett found a squirt gun at my parents' house. He was having fun squirting Grandpa. Grandpa thought it was fun since Brett had the squirt gun turned backwards, so he was squirting himself :)
Amelia likes chilling with her grandparents :)
