I'm actually not slacking on blogging. I just haven't had time to sit down and do anything in the past month or so. It's been fun, but definitely tiring. So here goes.
*I can't find the pictures and stuff from this part.*
After just long enough for me to recover from my appendectomy, my sister had a tonsillectomy. I headed her way to help her with her kids while she was in surgery and recovering. As always, Sam had a great time with his cousins. He especially loved the slide that they have coming directly off their back porch. I tried to send them out as much as possible because weather was so nice. My parents were also able to come, which was really nice.
We were able to plant some plants this year, as long as they stay outside. It was actually a fairly traumatizing time for Sam. We had eaten at a restaurant for lunch, where they gave him a balloon. Quite surprising to us (he's always been pretty afraid of balloons), he grew attached to it. He had tons of fun hitting it around and hitting us with it. After lunch, we headed over to get some plants. While we were outside deciding which plants to get, the string slipped off the balloon and it went sailing away. Sam was devastated. He cried the rest of time and kept asking us why his balloon had to fly into the sky. Even now, over a month later, he sees that place and starts talking about his balloon.
During all this party planning, Charlie and Sam ended up getting pretty sick
(Saw this on Facebook and just had to laugh :) It was a pretty bad sickness though, although it was so long ago, I don't really remember what it entailed. I was just hoping that I wouldn't catch it, because everyone knows how miserable it can be when everyone in the house is sick at the same time. But I was able to get everything put together without catching anything. Charlie and Sam seemed to get over it in time for the party. It was nice that Charlie was able to be there. I was really hoping that nothing would get in the way of him being there.
The party started out with a Mr. Potato Head craft. I couldn't find anything like what I was looking for, so I made my own. It took FOREVER coloring and cutting every single piece. But they seemed to enjoy it.
Then the kids got to take their picture is Buzz Lightyear's space ship. Do you know how hard it is to find a picture of Buzz's rocketship? I finally had to watch the movie and paused it when it shows the rocket ship so I could draw it.
Then we played musical chairs, except a better version for little kids. I printed off a bunch of Toy Story characters and taped them to the chairs. Each child had their own seat. Then I played music. When the music stopped, they found a chair. Then I drew cards with the characters on it, and whoever was sitting on that chair got a prize. That way there aren't any kids that are sitting out the entire time. We played enough times that everyone got a prize.
The food wasn't quite ready yet, so we opened up presents.
Then onto pizza and cake and ice cream. I guess Sam thought the song was too loud. He kept his ears covered the whole time.
Sam got a new bike from Grandma and Grandpa Cordova. After the party, we went to try it out.
We played outside for a while, and that's when it hit me. I finally caught whatever Charlie and Sam had. My energy was gone just all of a sudden, and I had to lay down the rest of the night. A few days later, the Astros were playing in Denver. We had bought tickets quite a while back. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to come, but that day, I was feeling pretty good, so I decided to give it a try. I did ok, but toward the end of the night, I was pretty miserable.
Sam had a pretty rough time as well. His cough came back, so he was coughing quite a bit. Luckily, we remembered to bring his cough medicine, so he was able to enjoy himself a bit. We went over early because Charlie wanted to watch batting practice. We were over in left field, where a lot of balls were being hit. There were a lot of kids over there as well trying to catch balls. Two kids ended up getting hit by balls, so I was a little nervous to be over there, and I freaked Sam out because I kept grabbing him any time I thought a ball was coming near us. Charlie was able to get him a ball.
One nice thing about this field is that they have a playground, and we ended up sitting right next to it, which we thought would be convenient in case Sam started getting restless. Sadly, he climbed up the slide, and the attendant there told him not to, so he got really upset that he got in trouble. He didn't want to play on it the rest of the night.
Clinton was able to come and watch the game with us. I think Charlie was glad to be able to spend some time with him. One thing Charlie looks forward to is the Famous Dave's booth they have at the park. He gets a big bunch of ribs every time. :)
As I mentioned, Sam was having a rough time. He kept crying and punching out and just being a bit of a terror. I went to go find food and thought it might do him good to get up and walk around a little. Well, the vendors smartly put big bags of candy right at eye level for little guys. Sam found a bag of M&M's and wanted to buy it. I told him I would buy it, but he would have to be happy the rest of the time. That seemed to do the trick. After that, he was much happier.
That brings us to June. I think I'll end there for tonight, and hopefully I'll be able to post about June tomorrow.
