Sam's Birthday

Sam's first birthday was last week. We were able to have a bunch of family come over for cake and ice cream. Because of Charlie's work schedule, we had to do it in the middle of the week.
I'm wondering why Sam will rip every paper in sight, until he has permission to do it. Then he has no interest.
After presents, it was time for cake. I made him a little cake that he could eat all by himself. I probably could have made it a tad bit smaller. Sam didn't quite know what to think about all the people singing and staring at him.It shocked me that he didn't immediately grab for the cake. I had to coax him to eat it.

He got the hang of it after a little while.

I finally had to take it away from him. He would have eaten the whole thing if I would have let him.
Charlie started his new job at Shell Falls a couple weeks ago. I decided to take a few pictures of his living arrangements.
Here is a picture of his dining room:

This year, he's working 5 days on, 2 days off. It's too far for him to drive back every day, so I only get to see him a couple days a week, so I miss him a ton. But hey, at least I get the bed to myself. I'll be glad when it's over so I can see him more, but I guess this could be just a prep for when Charlie's in graduate school.
I was able to go see Charlie up in the mountains. We took a short hike up Adelaide trail.

It's actually about 7 miles up to the lake, so one of these days, we are going to backpack up there and spend a night, then hike back down. I've never done anything like that, so it should be interesting.
I had to add this last picture. Drowning his sorrows in chocolate syrup.
He snuck into the fridge when my mom had it open and took it right out. I thought it was cute.

Michelle, he is so cute! The cake you made was so adorable. What is Charlie doing in Shell Falls? I mean, his office looks great, I want the name of the decorator!

First birthdays are the funnest I think. He is so adorable (he kind of looks like Ethan when he was a little younger). I love Charlie's living arrangements...that was kinda funny.
