Slacker

Someone posted that they had very few blog posts for this year, so I went to see how I had done. That's when I realized I haven't posted anything since September. Oops. So I'll give a condensed version of what we've been up to.

Sam said he wanted to be Leonardo for Halloween. I thought it would be cute to have Brett be a Ninja Turtle as well. It took way too long to make them, in between sickness, getting ready to move, and everything else. I started these during General Conference (Oct 6) and was rushing to get the finishing touches while we were heading out the door to Trunk-or-Treat at the church. But they turned out pretty cute, and Sam really enjoyed his.

We barely found time to carve a pumpkin this year. We finally were able to do it on Halloween night. Sam did pretty good helping to get all the seeds and stuff out of the pumpkin, but it finally grossed him out too much and he had to stop.

I opted to try a new method that would be less time-consuming than using a knife to carve the pumpkin. We used cookie cutters to cut animals. It took longer than expected because the pumpkin was pretty thick. We had to use a rubber mallet to pound the cookie cutter in, then try to pry them back out.

We were supposed to move in to our new place on the first of November, but the house was so dirty and grimy, we spent the first 3 days just cleaning. It still wasn't clean, but it was at least clean enough to move in. I'm still trying to get the deep cleaning done. Then Charlie had to go to Cheyenne for a while, and I didn't feel like moving in without him, so we got in around mid-November. Sam is loving having so much space to play with his toys that have been in storage for 5 months. November was so crazy, I only took one picture:

Brett loves watching Sam play video games, and Sam loves having an audience. I was worried about the adjustment it would be for Sam to have a baby in the house, but he's done great. He loves his brother.

Brett is 4 months old now. He's getting to be pretty big. We'll have his doctor's appointment next week to see how big he is. Overall, he's a happy baby, although he does have his days. He loves to smile and laugh and grab people's faces. He's about to roll over from back to front, but has no interest going front-to-back. He still looks exactly like Sam used to at that age.

Sam is loving Kindergarten. He's doing great in his reading and math. It's so fun to hear him reading so well and hear about all the things he's learning. There are 5 or 6 kids in our ward that are also in Kindergarten, so it's great to have friends at school and church. It's still an adjustment for him to go to bed early and wake up the next morning (we're a family full of night owls), but he's getting there.
Sam has been having fun taking all the ornaments off the tree and playing with them. One day, he stuck them all in his hat and made it stick straight out. I finally had to tell him to leave the ornaments alone or I would put them all away.

Brett was having a lot of trouble sleeping at night. For about 2 weeks, he wouldn't go to sleep until 1am, and them wake up at least every hour. So we started him a little early on cereal. It seems to be helping him sleep better. Sam enjoys helping me take care of Brett.

We got to go to 2 Christmas parties. the first one we went to was my parents' ward. Sam didn't think Santa looked much like Santa. He was much more satisfied with the Santa at our ward Christmas party.

Sam was excited to open up some Christmas books. He enjoyed reading them with Brett.

Tonight was Sam's Christmas program at school. We got there 20 minutes early (later than we wanted to be) and ended up in the balcony. I couldn't see very well with my bad eyes, so hopefully we'll be able to watch it on TV later. Sam was very cute with his awesome dance moves :)
