This year for Halloween, Sam wanted to be an Angry Bird--"the fast one!". I looked into buying one, but they're upwards of $50! It's ridiculous! I found one for like $20, but is was basically a yellow plastic garbage bag. So I set out to make my own. The material only coast around $20, and I had a bunch left over, so I think I did good :) Sam was pretty excited for it. The face hole was a little small for him, but it worked. I added in a few layers of batting for warmth. Go figure this was the only year that there wasn't snow and crazy weather on Halloween. He was probably baking.
He won the cake walk his very first round.
One station had face painting. Sam said he wanted Sponge Bob. Not sure where he got that from.
After the Safe Treat, we headed over to the church for Trunk or Treat. We were early, so Sam wanted to chase Charlie around and be a fast Angry Bird.
Sam had fun, but Charlie and I weren't satisfied. Sam was running from car to car saying, "TrickOrTreatThankYou!" and not even getting in the spirit of it. We knew the Sororities/Fraternities were doing Trick or Treat after the Safe Treat, so we headed over there to knock some doors. After a few houses, we realized this wasn't the experience we were wanting either. They either went all out with kids coming into the house and doing a lot of games and activities (they didn't even have kids knock), or we passed by the houses, not wanting to go near them. So we decided to head closer to home, to the neighborhood down the road. That was more like it. Knocking on each door and waiting for candy. They had some pretty good houses in the area. One house had an entire skit planned out with aliens and FBI agents and a whole bunch of other stuff. Sam was having a fun time, until we got to the really scary house. It was too loud for him and had too many scary things. After that, he was done for the night. When he got home, he was still scared. He decided that his horsey backpack would help him be brave, so he took that to bed with him and cuddled it all night. In the morning, he woke up and told me it made him brave, so next year, he would take his horsey to the scary house so it wouldn't be a scary house any more :)
Later, I told Sam to get me some candy. He said, "But I'm not giving you my Skittles, ok?" I guess he really loves his Skittles lol
I went to a craft fair one weekend with my sister. I was needing a little break. I didn't sell a ton, but just having a day with just me and my sister was worth it. The lady across from us kept laughing at us because we were, well, being the way we are when we get together :) Our booth was right next to the front door, which was excellent for 2 reasons: 1) Everyone who came saw our booth first thing. 2) The way things were set up, the only other booth we could see was the one right across from us, which meant less temptation to go buy stuff. I ended up buying a Christmas paper pack from the lady right across from us. And I made this Advent calendar with it. I'm excited to start using it :)
I also used stuff I got from the awesome yard sale. You probably heard about it. I was excited :) This woman's mom died, and she had a scrapbooking store, so she had a huge personal stash, so her daughter was selling everything. Everything was ridiculously cheap. I ended up going back because I was sad I didn't get more :) I called my mom and got her a ton of stuff as well.
Charlie wasn't too excited about that yard sale find, but he was excited about this find. This brand new 4-person raft was only $25. I set it up to make sure it worked. It filled our dining room. Charlie and Sam had fun just sitting in it. Sam was pretty sad when I took it down :)
The clothing exchange was this past weekend, yet another reason Karen came down. Charlie watched the kids for us again, but we had to come home early from sorting because one child was throwing up and 3 of them had fevers. Another one threw up later that night. Fun times. Sam ended up catching whatever they had. But he seems to be doing better now *knock on wood* so hopefully it's a short sickness.
