Recent Happenings

Surprise surprise, I'm way behind again. So I'll try and be brief. Hopefully some time within the next couple days, I'll get a blog post about our trip to Denver, but we're still recovering from sickness, so I'm not sure if I'll get to it. Anyway, here's a brief history of what's been going on:

In January, we never got a chance to celebrate our anniversary while we were in Lovel
l. Luckily, a woman in our ward was able to watch Sam while Charlie and I went to a movie. When we came to pick Sam back up, she said, "I'm not sure what happened, but at one point, Sam came upstairs with his shirt on backwards and inside out. I asked him what happened, but he just got really quiet. My son said he didn't know what happened either." I'm not sure why, but this story made me laugh. I can only imagine what was going on.

I dropped a plate on my foot and it hurt really bad. Just thought I would throw that in there. Can you guess where it hit? And did my font just change?
Back in January, it was my turn for preschool. The topic was Goals. I decided that my goal would be to finish my Mickey Mouse puzzle, probably one of the most challenging puzzles I have ever done.
The picture is made up of tiny scenes from Disney movies, some of which are barely discernible from others. I was able to finish it and got it Mod Podged. All the kids were very impressed.

Speaking of preschool, some of the moms wanted a little picture holder that the kids could open up a little window and their picture would be inside. I guess kind of a way to see who is in preschool that day and some kind of disciplinary thing. They asked me to make it. Here's what I came up with. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. The pictures are changable, so each semester, if new kids come and old ones go, pictures can be replaced. The bad part is that each picture isn't quite the same size, so it might be a little hard getting them the right size. Inside the door, you can write a message with a dry erase marker, so you can write whatever you want to each day. I just realized, I don't think I actually told anybody about that part. Whoops.
Also for preschool, Sam had a field trip to the art museum. The kids saw some old Native American baskets, then they went into the art room for a lesson on weaving. It was a pretty short tour, but I guess I can understand that. I wouldn't want to have 9 3-year-olds running around an art museum for too long.

I got on Facebook and saw the message that preschool was going to be cancelled the next day. I had already told Sam that he would be going to preschool, and I hate when it gets cancelled because he loses that peer interaction, so I volunteered to do the lesson for that week. After volunteering, I was trying to decide if I like torturing myself. I only had a few hours to prepare for the lesson the next morning. I had a few ideas previously for what I wanted to do, so I had a slight plan, but I didn’t feel quite prepared for it. Luckily, I was able to pull it off, and it went pretty smoothly. Thursday’s lesson was on Creativity, and I had an idea to make rainbow cupcakes (color the batter lots of different colors and spoon each color into a cupcake. I started way too late in the day, plus I only had a cupcake tin that did 6 cupcakes at a time. I ended up finishing at 1 in the morning, which didn’t bode well for me the next day. I’m pretty useless when I don’t get enough sleep. But I was able to push through and everything went fine. And now the font is small.

We took a day to go up in the mountains and do some sledding. We had a pretty hard time finding a suitable place. It had just snowed a couple feet, and everything was still very soft. Whenever we got on the sled, we would just sink in the snow and not move. We ended up at an old ski resort, which had a perfect place for sledding. It was a pretty popular place. We soon found out that our sled was not that great. We had a hard time steering, plus snow continually piled up into it. Sam got too much snow in the face, so he was ready to go home after a very short time. We spent most of the time lying in the snow, which was actually quite comfortable.

Charlie's brother was able to come here on leave, which is an entirely different story that I'll let him tell you if he wants to. The highlights: We go to go sledding.

And bowling.

Sam got to play with Winchester a lot.
And was very sad when he had to leave.
At the end of February, I was able to go to my sister's house to help her with a fundraiser she was doing. The weather cleared up on Friday just enough for me to drive through. The skies were clear, but the wind was pretty bad. It was creating ground blizzards, worse than anything I had ever driven in before. The freeways closed soon after I got to Green River and didn’t open again until Monday. While I was there, I was able to put up a few curtain rods to hang her tutus. Previously, they were just hanging in a closet. Now she has a place to display them! If you're interested in one, go here to see some of them. She'll even do custom orders (How's that for a shout out Sister :)

So there's our recent happenings. Until tomorrow, or maybe the next day, week, or whatever it may be. I'm going to bed.
